You and your family deserve world-class beautiful smiles, and there are some common
cosmetic dental procedures that can give them to you.
But how do you know which ones are right for you?
Of course, you’ll want to get the advice of a dentist you can trust and who has specialized experience in cosmetic dentistry. A dentist like Dr. Lovik Mirzaeian.
Here are some of the common cosmetic dental procedures that you may be considering and that you should discuss with your dentist:
Teeth Whitening
Teeth can become stained over time, and teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile and make you look younger.
There are various methods used to whiten your teeth. Ours, for example, is a custom take-home treatment plan with the added benefit of our professional supervision from initial consultation through completion.
The products we offer won’t migrate to gums, and most formulations include Potassium Fluoride (PF), which helps to improve oral health by strengthening enamel, decreasing sensitivity, and offering increased cavity prevention.
Our whitening system is a powerful, prescription-strength take-home whitening gel. It's available with 10%, 10%PF, 15%PF, 20%PF, and 35%PF carbamide peroxide, and can provide results after just one night, though you should expect to see results in about a week.
Veneers
Veneers are a good choice for people who are unsatisfied with their smile. They’re also a great way to fix broken or worn down teeth. Veneers can change the size, shape, and color of teeth. They usually require only minimal tooth reduction, since the veneers can be made very thin. The best part is that they are very natural looking and won't stain.
Veneers can take care of small dental problems such as:
- Undesirably small teeth
- Uneven tooth length
- Misshapen or twisted teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Stained or yellowed teeth
Invisalign
Invisalign is designed to straighten and align your teeth in a discreet and more convenient way than traditional braces. There are no brackets or wires that can poke and irritate your mouth or distract from the beauty of your smile.
Invisalign is a smooth, easily removable plastic aligner. It is easy to clean and allows you to eat whatever you want!
Your dentist will take x-rays, pictures, and impressions of your teeth. Then they will map out a precise treatment plan. Based on your individual treatment plan, a series of custom-made, clear aligners is then created specifically for you. You’ll simply wear them throughout the day, and remove them when you eat or to brush and floss your teeth. Since they’re virtually invisible, most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them.
Dentures
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available — complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures can be either "conventional" or "immediate." Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. They’re ready for placement in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed.
However, bones and gums shrink over time, especially during the healing period following tooth removal. Therefore, immediate dentures will require more adjustments to fit properly during the healing process and generally should only be considered a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
A fixed (permanent) bridge replaces one or more teeth by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the space and attaching artificial teeth to them. This "bridge" is then cemented into place. Not only does a partial denture fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from changing position. A precision partial denture is removable and has internal attachments rather than clasps that attach to the adjacent crowns. This is a more natural-looking appliance.
Dental Implants
Dental implants can be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. The cost is usually greater, but the implants and bridges more closely resemble the feel of real teeth. Dental implants are becoming the leading alternative to dentures, however, not everyone is a candidate for implants.
You’ll need to talk to your dentist to see if dental implants would be right for you.
