Types of Food that are Bad for Your Teeth

If you're having trouble keeping cavities away then it may be time to cut out certain foods. There are types of food that are bad for your teeth that you should avoid.

  1. Hard Candy
  2. Hard candies contain a lot of sugar, and as we all know, sugar causes cavities. They can also cause chipped teeth if you bite down too hard.

  3. Ice
  4. Even though ice is just water, it can still harm your teeth if you're chewing it. Chewing ice can damage your tooth enamel and also cause breakage.

  5. Citrus
  6. Too much citrus can start to damage your tooth enamel. When your tooth enamel is damaged, it makes your teeth break down faster. Try limiting the amount of citrus you eat and drink.

  7. Coffee & Tea
  8. Coffee and tea can stain your teeth, which isn't necessarily bad for them, but it doesn't look great. The thing that causes damage is the sugar that's added to coffee and tea. If you're going to drink these caffeinated drinks, try just drinking it plain. And be sure to drink a lot of water afterward.

  9. Dried Fruits
  10. Dried fruits are an easy way to get your daily fruit in but they also get stuck in your teeth. The longer food is stuck in your teeth, the more damage it will cause.

  11. Chips
  12. Chips tend to get stuck in your teeth as well. If you do eat chips regularly, be sure to floss shortly afterword to get all the particles out from between your teeth.

  13. Sugar Drinks
  14. Drinking soda, sport drinks, and juice are ways to make your teeth erode quicker. They contain a lot of sugar and it can damage your tooth enamel. Soda is even worse because it is also acidic. Switch these drinks out for water instead.

  15. Alcohol
  16. Alcohol causes your mouth to dry up. Saliva is beneficial because it fights bacteria in your mouth. If bacteria gets built up in your mouth it can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
