The Benefits of Using Mouthwash
Brushing and flossing are the best ways to keep your oral hygiene up but using mouthwash has its benefits as well. Here are the benefits of using mouthwash in your daily oral hygiene routine.
- Freshens Your Breath
The most obvious reason to use mouthwash is that it temporarily freshens your breath. It does this by killing bacteria in your mouth that is causing the bad breath.
- Fights Gum Disease
When food sticks to teeth and gets stuck in the gums, it can cause periodontal disease or gingivitis. Studies have shown that those who regularly used bacteria-killing mouthwash showed results of reduced amounts of gingivitis in their mouth.
- Prevents Plaque Build-Up
Bacteria-killing mouthwash can help prevent plaque to build-up on, in between, and around your teeth. It cannot remove the plaque that is already there so be sure to keep brushing and flossing.
- Prevents Cavities
If you are using a mouthwash that contains fluoride then it can help prevent cavities. Mouthwash kills the bacteria that is associated with forming cavities.
- Helps Heal Canker Sores
As long as the alcohol content isn't too high, mouthwash can help heal canker sores. It cleans and disinfects the area around the canker sores, helping the infection to ease up.
