Types of Food that are Good for Your Teeth

The food that you eat has an effect on your teeth. If you're eating a lot of sugary foods and drinks, then it can cause tooth decay. If you want your teeth to be healthy, then be mindful of the food you eat as well as keeping good dental hygiene. Here are some of the top types of food that are good for your teeth.

  1. Cheese
  2. If you love cheese then you have another reason to eat it. Cheese has a high pH level, increasing the saliva in your mouth and lowering your chances of tooth decay. Cheese also has calcium and protein which can help strengthen your enamel.

  3. Milk
  4. Like cheese, milk has calcium, protein, and vitamin D helping your body absorb more calcium and strengthen your enamel.

  5. Sweet Potatoes
  6. Sweet potatoes have a lot of nutrients and contain a good amount of vitamin A. Vitamin A can help protect the enamel on your teeth and fight cavities.

  7. Lean Meat, Poultry, Fish, & Eggs
  8. Lean meat, poultry, fish, and eggs provide protein and the phosphorous that your teeth need. Phosphorous helps protect your enamel. Chicken and fish have high levels of vitamin B3 (niacin) which is good for your gums.

  9. Greens
  10. Greens, especially leafy greens like kale and spinach, are high in calcium and help to strengthen your enamel. Another benefit is they contain folic acid. This helps pregnant women fight gum disease.

  11. Apples
  12. Even though apples contain sugar, they are an exception because they produce saliva in your mouth which helps rinse away food particles and bacteria. Because of the texture of apples, they help clean your teeth and gums. It's not as good as brushing with toothpaste, but if you're in a pinch and need your teeth clean, eat an apple.

  13. Carrots and Celery
  14. Like apples, carrots increase the amount of saliva in your mouth. This can help reduce your chances of cavities. They are also high in fiber and a good source of vitamin A. Celery may be annoying to eat with those strings, but because of this, it helps clean your teeth and gums. It's high in vitamin A and C which improve the health of your gums.
